- Channel Billed Toucans are arboral fruit eaters, but will also take insects and small reptiles, eggs and nestlings of other birds and frogs.
- There are 37 different species of toucans.
- When it sleeps, a Toucan turns its head so that its long bill rests on its back, then folds its long tail neatly over it.
- When courting, male and female toucans may toss fruits to each other, throwing and catching them in their beaks.
- The toucan is a poor flyer, moving from tree to tree mostly by hopping.
- In certain religions of South America, the father of a new child must not eat toucan flesh as it might bewitch the newborn and cause it to fade away.
