Brights Zoo is a privately owned zoo. Therefore, the zoo does not receive state, local or federal funding of any kind. All admissions proceeds goes directly towards caring for the animals and upkeep of the zoo. This includes animal housing, appropriate diet, veterinary care, new exhibit and design for all maintenance of the facility.

Weight: 7-10 lbs
Max Lifespan: 19 years
Gestation Period: 3 months
Number of Young: Mostly twins or triplets, but up to 6

- dominant female leads and defends the group
- is the only true lemur to build a nest for their young
- females have 3 pairs of nipples for nursing young unlike other primates
- tails are not prehensile
- different alarm calls specify the location of danger and the type of predator
- scent glands on feet and backside are used to mark territory
- rarely descends to the ground in the wild
- natives of Madagascar once believed black and white lemurs worshipped the sun because they often sunbathe
