Brights Zoo is a privately owned zoo. Therefore, the zoo does not receive state, local or federal funding of any kind. All admissions proceeds goes directly towards caring for the animals and upkeep of the zoo. This includes animal housing, appropriate diet, veterinary care, new exhibit and design for all maintenance of the facility.

- Can survive days or even weeks without water.
- Is the largest member of the Oryx family of antelopes.
- Typically live in herds of 10 to 40 individuals.
- "Gemsbok" is the Afrikaans (South African Dutch) word for the animal meaning "chamois buck."
- Gemsbok are classified as "hiders", meaning the young are not seen present with the mother, but are hidden in the general vicinity, with the mother returning to nurse the calf 2 to 3 times each day.
