Brights Zoo is a privately owned zoo. Therefore, the zoo does not receive state, local or federal funding of any kind. All admissions proceeds goes directly towards caring for the animals and upkeep of the zoo. This includes animal housing, appropriate diet, veterinary care, new exhibit and design for all maintenance of the facility.

TOCO TOUCAN

- Toco toucan is the largest species in the toucan family.
- There are 37 different species of toucans.
- When it sleeps, a Toucan turns its head so that its long bill rests on its back, then folds its long tail neatly over it.
- When courting, male and female toucans may toss fruits to each other, throwing and catching them in their beaks.
- Toco toucans live in small flocks of about six birds.
- The toucan is a poor flyer, moving from tree to tree mostly by hopping.
- In certain religions of South America, the father of a new child must not eat toucan flesh as it might bewitch the newborn and cause it to fade away.
