  –  Distinguished by its long, splayed hooves. These hooves make the sitatunga clumsy and vulnerable on firm terrain, but well adapted for walking through muddy, vegetated swamplands.
  –  Sitatunga are also known as marshbucks.
  –  Situtunga have a water-proof coat which is dark brown in males and reddish brown in females. Both sexes have white stripes and spots as well as white splotches on their faces.
